  • Jonathan Coulton and Paul & Storm Unleash a Flood of Awesome

Posted on October 13th, 2009 admin No comments

A kind of perfect storm of geekiness came together in Chicago this past Saturday. If you were there, we at GeekDad envy you, for, sadly, none of us could make it. If you weren’t there, though, you, like us, can still enjoy it through the magic of YouTube.

If you’re a fan of geeky music, you were probably aware that Jonathan Coulton is on tour to various places around the U.S., and you may also have been aware that he has been playing many of those venues with Paul and Storm. What they did for their show Saturday in Chicago, though, took that already-high level of geekiness and increased it exponentially: They performed the entire They Might Be Giants album Flood.

They decided that, since TMBG has been doing Flood in concert a lot, and since it is an amazingly good album, they would do it, too. As if the three of them doing TMBG music wasn’t geeky enough, they got Peter Sagal of NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! to join them on stage to do the spoken parts of the “They Might Be Giants” track (in part 9 of the video).

Anyway, without further ado, here are all nine parts of the concert (parts 2 - 9 after the jump). The video quality leaves something to be desired, but the audio is excellent. Try not to cringe, as I did, when reminded that Flood first came out just under 20 years ago.
