Is Your GeekDaughter a Princess?

I get concerned about gender stereotypes. I think its okay that boys play with dolls and that girls like trucks. I don’t want to force princess clothes on my daughter. If she wants to wear a bulldozer t-shirt, I am all for it.

If she must be a princess, I hope that she will at least be self-rescuing princess, and more like a Princess Leia (without the metal bikini) than Princess Ariel.

Several months ago, Penn Jillette went on a video rant about how his daughter is not his little princess. He even calls the princess culture downright un-American. His daughter should be a freedom fighter, not a princess. She should dress up like Susan B. Anthony, not Ariel.

Hat in hand, Penn follows up with a video pointing out just how wrong he was. Yes, he had a princess party for his daughter’s fourth birthday party. There was even a Cinderella impersonator to entertain the girls.

Stop worrying about it, shut up and take a picture of your daughter wearing a tiara. It’s your daughter’s party not yours.
